Modeling has often been described as a cut throat industry and in order to become successful, you’ll need to have more than just looks. Many aspiring models go out into the modeling world with misplaced expectations and find they just can’t cut it. It’s important that you develop a top model mindset before you decide this is the career for you.
Rejection Is Inevitable
This is an industry where you will most likely meet rejection 95%+ of the time, so you need to develop realistic expections. There are many reasons why an agency or client may reject you and it’s most likely because you’re simply not what the client is “looking” for — nothing personal.
If you are overly sensitive, fashion modeling may not be the best industry for you and if you truly want to make a success of it, you will need to seek help dealing with your opinions about your self image.
Develop Confidence
In order to increase your chances of landing the ideal job (or modeling agent), remember to be confident in yourself and your appearance. Beauty will always be in the eye of the agent/casting director/producer, but when you know how to handle yourself, you will succeed.
This may sound like advice coming out of a bad zen movie, but it helps. Remember to tell yourself that you’re beautiful every day. Know above all else that you consider yourself to be a beautiful human being and that no one can take that from you.
Put Your Professional Foot Forward
There is a time and place for everything, and the time and place to present yourself in a professional manner is when you’re meeting someone for the first time; first impressions can make or break your career.
It doesn’t hurt to learn about the modeling agency or client before you meet. This cram session will give you an opportunity to figure out what they like or dislike and learn which of your features you should make stand out.
Above all else, always present yourself professionally. You are your own product and if the product isn’t good, no one’s going to purchase it.
